Preparing for your consultation: 10 questions that really help
Why preparation matters
A structured medical consultation saves time, reduces uncertainty, and supports shared decision-making. Note down your goals: What would you like to clarify today (e.g., progression, daily life, therapy options)?
The 10 questions – in brief
- How do you assess my current findings (e.g., perimetry, OCT) in terms of progression?
- What changes have been objectively measurable since the last appointment?
- Which warning signs should I monitor myself – and when should I report them?
- Which therapy/care options are suitable for me (e.g., TES with OkuStim®)?
- What benefits and risks do you see with these options?
- What can I realistically improve in daily life (lighting, contrast, orientation, aids)?
- Which appointments/intervals are appropriate (check-ups, adjustments, rehab)?
- What impact does RP have on work/studies – and what support is available?
- Which points of reference do you recommend (self-help groups, rehab, study centers)?
- What is the next concrete step – who does what by when?
Documents & Self-monitoring
- Send in advance: previous findings, medication, genetic test reports if applicable
- Therapy diary: brief notes on visual impression, glare, daily situations
- Question list: mark 3 main goals – so nothing gets overlooked
During the consultation: clarify clearly, decide together
Actively ask for plain language: have technical terms explained briefly, summary at the end
Make decisions together: goals, alternatives, next steps. If anything remains unclear, ask for a written recommendation.
Discretion
Health information is a matter between you and your doctor! Always treat it as confidential. Please do not send any health information to Okuvision.
