Okuvision - What Drives us
Discover what drives us: slowing vision loss, simplifying access to care, and enabling transparent, evidence-based decisions.
Preserving Vision – Act Today
Our aim is to slow the progression of inherited retinal dystrophies and preserve vision longer. TES therapy with OkuStim® specifically delivers neuroprotective impulses for this purpose. To ensure its effectiveness in daily life, we provide support from the very beginning: with finding a practice or clinic, using the device at home, or offering tips related to the condition.
What drives us is tangible benefit: walking more safely, perceiving contrasts better, continuing professional and private activities for as long as possible. We combine scientific diligence, technical quality, and clear communication – so that decisions can be made in an informed, realistic, and self-determined manner.
This is how we understand “motivation” in practice:
- Realistically assess efficacy: seize opportunities, define limits – without false promises of a cure
- Enable daily life: simple procedures, fixed routines (once a week), understandable assistance
- Simplify access: guidance on prescriptions, sources of supply, and reimbursement
“It is highly motivating to develop a therapy that is truly used in practice for patients with a condition that may lead to blindness.”
Dr. Alfred Stett, CEO Okuvision GmbH
Close to Patients and Practice
We continuously collaborate with eye clinics and patient organizations to improve care and information. Examples include PRO RETINA Deutschland e. V., Retina Suisse, and Retina International. We are also well-connected in the DACH region – the exchange with clinics and associations brings our motivation into practice.
To make this tangible, we rely on teamwork between patients, relatives, specialist practices, and providers. From experience, we know: good therapy is interdisciplinary. Therefore, we create clear interfaces – for example, between medical indication, device settings, and follow-up checks – and ensure binding information for all involved parties.
Support Along the Way
- Initial consultation & Orientation: concise information on eligibility, treatment process, and therapy goals
- Instruction & Start: practical guidance and tips for comfortable use at home
- Support & Monitoring: regular follow-up checks at the specialist practice, with parameter adjustments as needed
- Organization & Service: guidance on access and reimbursement; contacts for practical questions
This creates a reliable routine that makes the therapy predictable and supports long-term motivation.
Transparency & Security
For us, transparency means presenting information in a clear and understandable way, citing sources, and clearly indicating updates—for example, when new study results become available or processes are improved. We want you to understand what your decisions are based on: evidence, real-world experience from care, and clearly defined processes.
Security is our top priority. The therapy is medically prescribed, individually adjusted, and accompanied by a standardized process. This includes:
- Comprehensive explanation of the device and instruction in proper handling at the start of therapy
- System feedback (visual/auditory) for safe use
- Regular follow-up checks with defined metrics
- Accessible Information: clear language, good readability, alt text, and easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions
We communicate both benefits and potential side effects (e.g., temporary dryness) openly—and provide practical guidance on how to manage them. Our commitment: reliability at every step, from initial contact through long-term follow-up.
