Okuvision has set out to provide state-of-the-art treatment options for people with degenerative retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, cone-rod dystrophy, Usher syndrome and choroideremia. Everything we do is aimed at ‘preserving your vision’.
To this end, we are continuously developing the OkuStim system and its individual components. New scientific findings are constantly flowing into our work. And we value an intensive exchange with patients, opticians and ophthalmologists.

Our Story
The Okuvision GmbH was founded at the end of 2007 as a subsidiary of Retina Implant AG and is now an independent company. The company is based in Kusterdingen.
Together with experts from the University Eye Hospital in neighbouring Tübingen, the Okuvision team developed electrostimulation of the retina with the OkuStim system. It benefits people with degenerative retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
The Okustim therapy is the result of clinical studies, which Okuvision has placed great emphasis on from the very beginning. Since 2011, several studies with RP-patients have proven that the treatment with electrostimulation is effective and safe. Follow-up studies confirmed these results. Today, the OkuStim therapy is the only topically applied therapy for retinitis pigmentosa that is approved and available based on the results of clinical studies.
As Okuvision, we provide patients with the OkuStim system in many European countries. For this purpose, we have built up a network with qualified ophthalmologists, eye clinics and opticians, which we are constantly expanding.
Our values
Okuvision GmbH is guided by the principles of evidence-based medicine. This means that our therapy offer is based on the results of clinical studies conducted according to the principles of good clinical practice.
We have established a quality management system (QMS) for our products to ensure that each individual component of the OkuStim system is manufactured from high-quality materials and in consistently good as well as safe quality. Of course, our QMS is certified according to the regulations for manufacturers of medical devices. The OkuStim system first received the CE mark as a class IIa medical device back in 2014.
